Q&A Summary

Question Answer(s)
to the IBD Live International Team, from Minneapolis – on a Friday morning, with more snow swirling outside the window GM, Scott!
Jeff-TGIF TGIF, Jeffery!
Morning to all Morning, everyone!
Good morning from Boston! GM, Jim!
Morning All from Colorado! Welcome, Nicholas!
howdy ! Howdy right back, John!
GM Alissa GM, James!
Good Morning from Arkansas!!!! Hey, Lane!
Good afternoon everyone. TDOC please Holding support at 50-day line. Nice handle forming w/ 236.90 buy point. Earnings due next week, Wed after the close.
Hi from The Villages Hi Daniel!
Wow, Gallway Girl! One of my favorites! Mine too!
Alissa, Can you ask the guys to comment if they hold BA thru earnings next week? Hey James! We like focusing on top growth stocks in strong uptrends, trading above their 200-day lines. We’re not seeing that with Boeing, unfortunately. BA had a really nice run 2016-2018 but now has weak fundamentals. So we’re not playing this one right now
Good morning from Chicago. Can we do a post trade analysis of Whirlpool? Thanks Go Bears! Bears are looking strong! Disappointing day Thurs for WHR. Looked like a nice bounce of 21-day EMA. Still testing support. No sell signal from 186.06 buy point.
Good Morning all Morning Paul. Enjoy the show.
Gm! Proper buy point for Aso Looks like it would have been 13.98 — would wait for a new base at this point
Good morning…Curious if anone sees what is going on wiht DT. Down 4% in pre-market. Earnings are next week. Is this a sympothy move? Looks like no DT action now, premarket can be wonky.
Ken is missing… He’s on Q&A duty today!
Happy Friday! TGIF Jeff. Enjoy the show.
good morning everyone. thoughts about ARRY? Hi Mark, as Chris said, the stock did not spend enough time to form an IPO base, which tend to form over a minimum of 15 days or weeks to even months. A few exceptions exist in which they form over fewer than 15 days. This IC (Investor’s Corner) may help. Cheers, Hat Man Dave — https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/ipo-bases-rich-gains/
steve Earle? Good song One of my favorites.
SAM up big pre market. Glad i added on the 3 weeks tight! Nice!
Are there any expectations for FIZZ now or has it just fizzled? FIZZ is looking fine. Not great close Thu. but still on winning streak. RS line is well into new high ground.
Good Morning. Can we please check TSLA today. This stock keep going down. Still finding support at 10-week. Market is trending down too, so hard to fidn that.
Good Morning Can you comment on APPS? Big leader. Would be buyable if it bounces off the 50-day moving average with conviction. But tough environment for growth stocks in recent days.
Hi gang. Love the program! PFSI. Made a profit on the breakout, sold it on pullback, and sure looks like a good bounce stock for much higher. Got to have blowout earnings. But no clue why it pulled back. Your opinion greatly appreciated! live answered
U? live answered
Can u say what is the symbol?? Yes!
I focus on 10-week when selling. Any recommendations on how to handle a stock when the price is extended well beyond the MA? For example, 15-20% above the 10-week. Thanks Great Q, John. This IC addresses this point — https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/when-to-sell-a-stock-how-far-does-it-rise-above-the-200-day-line/
Is TSLA running out of the charge? Given no up move after earnings. In some quarters (such as Q3 2019 results), Tesla has certainly moved up like a rocket. And in others, as well as big events such as Battery Day, the stock can run up ahead of the news, then pull back. Right now, it’s key for TSLA to show strength near its rising 10-week moving average and to continue working on the current base. This ICs may offer some more perspective. — https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/avoid-the-flawed-chart-pattern-why-a-wide-swinging-stock-raises-risk/ and https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/five-ways-to-spot-the-bullish-base-on-base-stock-pattern/
ADBE, please draw a trendline on it’s RS line, it looks to me like it has broken below a long term trend line the RS. Is that a red flag? live answered
Ticker for Unity? U
Alissa…suggestion for the daily stock picks. please post them in chat first thing so we can have the synmbols of the favoriate stocks of the day…ty Thanks for this suggestion!
What’s the other gaming software, besides U? Corsair Gaming CRSR
Good morning Gang – can you discuss Beyond Meat pls and thanks? Looks like an orderly pullback to me, but the concern is that BYND is close to erasing a double-digit gain from the buy point. If I bought at 167.26 buy point, I would’ve trimmed the position by now.
Can you help us understnd the optimal realistic buy point for CRSR…..Jeff N Earlier this week when it cleared the 10/1 high
Good Morning all! Is there any thought on this market rally becoming under pressure? We’re not there yet, not with one distribution day on the Nasdaq. Growth stocks under some selling presssure, but Nasdaq and S&P 500 are still in good setups, still holding support at 50-day line.
INTC – EPS rating is great – Is there alevel where you would start a position and collect 3% dividend while they reset their business. At less than 10x looks attractive versus MU and AMD on valuation. INTC is having serious execution problems. If you’re looking for yield, check out some of our recent Income Investor columns: https://www.investors.com/category/research/the-income-investor/
Hi Ali, How can I get a copy of Top Stocks of 2019? Hey John! Have you tried reaching out to our customer service team about this? They’d be the best ones to help, but let me know!
Good morning, can we look at Unity U? live answered
Alissa what do you think about FIZZ today? RS line looking great, trading at the top of the 5% buy zone
CRNC please — fairly recent IPO Too extended to buy now after recent bounce off 10-week line. Last legit base breakout was during week ended Aug. 7.
How long can a “handle” get before it’s not a handle anymore? The handle alone needs at least five days to form, but it could go on for weeks. Make sure it doesn’t exceed the cup portion in time or size of decline
TSLA – earlier it would have moved much higher on that report. Showing weakness in market or stock? Or just priced in? Hard to say. Short interest is much, much lower than in previous quarters – but Tesla also reversed lower after the prior 2 earnings reports – so it’s not like Tesla always surges on earnings. There were some not-so-great parts to the report as well.
A lot of IPOs to consider…seems like the 7-8% losss rule would be tough to utilize given the volatility. How do you set stops or view risk management on these? Thanks! Hi Andy, see the “Sell Rules” section of the IBD Live FAQ page. It has some alternative sell rules you can read more about: http://investors.com/LiveFAQ
long term leader? Here’s the current list of Long-Term Leader stocks: https://www.investors.com/research/ibd-long-term-leaders-screen/
Can we look at W and whats happening there? I don’t know why – but e-commerce stocks have been hit. Sometimes stocks form handles – and then don’t break out.
Hi. How do you draw the regression channel lines in Thinkorswim please? Is there a video explanation already? You can use the regression channel tool in TOS and start from Nasdaq follow-through day on 4/6 and use channel low at the lows in September
Can we look at TSLA? News out on recall in China. live answered
Got it Alissa. Thank you. It’s my focus as well. Great!

Irusha – While I’ve been very stringent with my recent selections, it has been a STRUGGLE. Historically, this has demonstrated (to me) to stay away from new purchases – peel back – wait for the sky to clear. that’s the smart move. be patient
Mike W said in an interview some time ago that all the IPOs he looked at in his study (all of the IPOs from 1962) had a great story. U! live answered
please review JD. Thanks live answered
Here’s a lesson Irusha could talk about: Last wk when FSLY gapped down, he sold immediately. By end of day it had reversed up, so that seemed unneeded. But since then it’s continued to decline. When you’re down *that* much, you need to get out. You can sell right away or a few hours later – sometimes you’ll get a slightly better price, sometimes worse, but ultimately you have to take your medicine.
Can we look at JD, seems like it’s underperfoming live answered
What’s happening to TSLA?! live answered
Can you talk about the P/E ratio? How is that calculated? Too be honest we don’t really use it too much! Check out investors.com/videos for our explainer on this

TSLA under the 50-day, and 10-week, hold here, buy or sell? live answered
What criteria do you use for selling long term leaders? RS line breaking down on the monthly
what exactly does short interest indicate Here is an article: https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/what-is-short-interest/
Ed is perma bear on TSLA. I’m a long-term bear on TSLA – because I’m a long-term bear on *Tesla* – but not necessarily now.
to Ed – Elon Musk is on the phone and wants to talk to you . . . He doesn’t take questions from people who ask real questions.
JD comments.. Noted… What about SE..?? live answered
Props to Ali today, keep asking these guys the clarification questions! “What does small mean? 2%?”, “Right, this IPO has fallen 5% in the last five minutes, so what’s the plan?”, “Exactly what position size do you have?” etc etc. Really good and really useful Ali, keeping everyone focused and giving us plenty of much needed detail; so thanks very much! Awesome to hear, thanks!
Did you guys say we can buy CRSR now? It’s extended now
ED: What do you think of NIO? I believe they will be the dominant vehicle in China. VERY nice machine and their charging station strategy seems quite intelligent. Well, Nio is definitely showing growth. But the auto business is tough. Competition is extremely fierce – and is going to get a lot heavier for Nio with the Model Y and VW’s ID.4 coming out. Even if Nio is a survivor, the valuation may be too high l-t because the auto biz tends to be low margin, cyclical, etc.
to Irusha – help us all understand what the perspective of the big boys and girls are – the ones that are making decisions about thousands and millions of shares. Are they just kind of bidding their time for now? they might be slowly buying too since some of their stocks are on a discount. hard to say but some stocks are at key support areas where they should hold.
VEEV? Looking pretty flat and RS turned down on weekly? live answered
Its really sad that I get Justin’s joke-Grass Hopper !! I am old !!! That would make me old and I refuse to accept it. We are young!

How do i turn off marketsmith alerts to my email? Hi {name}, Give a MarketSmith coach a call at 800-452-4422. Hours are Mon-Fri: 5:30 AM – 5:00 PM Pacific Time.
you may need to add a $1 to a cookie jar each time Allie has to announce the stock symbols This is an idea that I can get behind!
Hello Good morning
what do you think about veev being in a stage 6 base I think we’re calling this a stage 2 base – that the longish consolidation in 2019-early 2020 wiped the slate clean.
can we look at AXNX? live answered

good morning, did I miss a look at WHR? Hey James, yes we did touch on this one — talked about where we got out on SwingTrader, j ust didn’t work out this time! Nasty reversal yesterday, but found support at 21-day line. Up a bit today.
fsly Just keeps getting worse and worse. Chart is completely broken. It’s possible the growth story is significantly weaker going forward, which is really bad news for such a highflier.
Any comments on SAM? Too extended? Another solid earnings report, but yes, too extended. Last legitimate breakout was during week ended July 10.
ddog, what if you still have a large profit, 98%, what should you do Keep an eye on the 10-week — and it’s far above that level right now!
did you talk about NET ? No, but watching this one closely. Like the chart a lot. Waiting for new entry.
ODFL please Earnings due next week (Tuesday before the open). Nice cup with handle base with 205.21 buy point. Could make sense as earnings option trade. Monthly call option with 200 strike price (Nov. 20 expiration) has premium of around $8.50.
Hi Ali, Yes I reached out to the Customer Service team. Unfortunately, they were not helpful and didn’t seem to know how to help me. shoot me an email John and I will see what I can do
what about the after party Ed? one more puff might get you that 3rd wind. and the band… Then you’ll be too wrung out to go to the next party.
Ken, can you direct me to your article on using options for earnings? Thanks Sure thing. Just click the Research tab at top of home base and then click Earnings Preview. https://www.investors.com/research/earnings-preview/tsm-stock-bullish-action-ahead-of-q3-results/
JD? I’m down a little, should I bail? For me, 21-day EMA (79.58) is the line in the sand.
DXCM breaking above 50 day on nice volume. Good mutual fund sponsorship. That’s a positive. But earnings are coming next week.
Happy Friday!! What about Snap?? Keeper or take profits?? Definitely an 8-week hold.
Do you guys have a excel formula that tracks your equity curve that you could put in the FAQ ? Making a note of this!
Alissa do not give uo on getting your co-workers to give us the stock symbols. Seems to be a blind spot for our gender. Haha I think they’re finally catching on
Alyssa, you continue to help the team provide complete information for the audience, ticker symbol, canslim parameters and so on. Thanks. Well done! Glad to hear this, James!
Good morning Alissa! I have a tip to get the guys on their Ps and Qs with the ticker symbols! Set up a tip box in the office – for every ticker they miss they drop $1 into the box. That box becomes the source of funds for the breakfast truck or something similar that everyone benefits from!!! Haha yes it seems like we’re in competition mode now!
ally what about a link to the call strategy you were talking about Linked on our FAQ page at investors.com/LiveFAQ but here you go! https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/new-option-strategy-limits-risk-around-earnings/
NVDA is trying to curl up here on a short term chart. You guys like it here? live answered
Can you clarify the “buy point” in MarketSmith ? Is it the gap between loss and pivot areas or anywhere within the pivot area ? buy point is pivot plus 10 cents. buy range is up to 5% above the buy point. but sometimes we pick up buy points that marketsmith pattern recognition does not detect — it’s based on an algorithm, and chart reading is an art and a science!
Correction–ISRG? Still acting fairly well, with earnings out of the way. ISRG will have a handle with a 771.72 buy point after today.
Hello Hi, Ileana!
Did you already cover TSLA? Yes. Early on. Testing/undercutting 10-week line.
I don’t see my prior question or rest of them. Have they talked about Gilead? Popped up today but it’s hitting resistance at the 21-day. It’s been in a downtrend and weak fundamentals so we’re not focusing on this one — we like focusing on stocks in uptrends and trading above their 200-day lines, if not the 50-day
No screen share Are you not seeing Chris’ screen?

FTCH is also behaving well today live answered
Looking at WING which has 6 IBD funds owning it – would you buy a bounce of the 200 day which is where it is now? We usually look at bounces off the 50-day, rather than the 200-day as buying opportunities
Thank you Allie. When you sat pivot plus 10c does that mean bottom of the pivot range plus 10c ? For TWLO as example — double-bottom buy point is 283.44, which is the high of the midpoint of the base on 9/1 plus 10 cents
8:50 AM to Ed – Elon Musk is on the phone; wants to talk to you . 8:55 AM from Ed – He doesn’t listen to us who ask real questions. NOW from Mpls – “Come on, Man !!” OK, Elon, here’s a tough one. “If you could be a tree on Mars, what kind of tree would you be?” BOOM
exas live answered
You guys just talked about $SHOP handle %, do you guys have a nice handle definition in terms of percentages? Or it doesn’t define by percentage? 8-12% is normal range for handle
exas … live answered
TSLA – If Tesla doesn’t have a big recovey today this will be the first weekly close below the 10 week since its breakout. Are most people being patient with TSLA are reducing? If it closes just below 10-week line and you’ve got a low-cost basis, I think a lot of people will hold it.
EXAS has high short interest, so b/o could pop Exactly right, Dianna! So, right now MarketSmith shows short interest of 7.3 days’ worth of the stock’s average volume of 1.87 mil shares, or roughly 13.7 mil shares sold short. Down 19% from the prior reporting period, yet it’s still more than 9% of the total float of 147.2 mil shares. That’s not really heavy but it’s still significant. — https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/what-is-short-interest/
regarding TWLO – showing strength; up 2.5% now; good candidate for Swing Trader ??? We don’t put them on this close to earnings.
Good morning! Any thoughts on COUP here? Support at 50-day line as cup with handle base forms. Looks OK.
hey guys, what are your thoughts on LGIH? IBD mentioned it had a faulty base. Can you comment on that? LGIH fell decisively below its 50-day line and more than 8% from the buy point. Stock needs to set up again.
SAM gap up buy? live answered
TWLO — wasn’t that last gap up because TWLO reported early? Doesn’t that mean that earnings should not be as volatile? Great Q, Lisa, hard to know as some ‘new’ news may emerge when Twilio reports Q3 results.
Is EXAS actionable? live answered
Alissa, thanks for asking great questions. I appreciate the questions you asked today particularly in the first 20 minutes of the show today. Thanks for this feedback, Lisa!
Great questions you’re asking Ali Absolutely right, Jack
Could you talk about snap and chgg? Please live answered
Alissa, great questions to draw out everyone’s thought processes She does a wonderful job with that, indeed
do the traders on ibd live trade personal accounts with margin or personal funds always wondered because market prices are so high and I assume they deal alot of shares Thanks You don’t have to have a ton of money to invest! Focus on percentage gains, not dollar gains

SCCO brokeout That’s right, good eye; buy zone up to 51.75; got the RS line blue dot alert, too. — https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/growth-stocks-how-to-find-big-stock-market-winners-blue-dot-list-marketsmith/
File this under #TMI. But, I break for a bite to eat after watching you show and when you all run for the food truck. Awww too cute, David!
Ken, do you still like LGIH? I don’t own it. We’re holding a small position on Leaderboard. Still testing 10-week line but rough week for homebuilders amid rise in 10-year Treasury yield.
is RH building a tight-flag? Has the look but RH about to finish its sixth week of consolidation (a little long for a flag). Either way, 410.59 buy point in play.
Ali asks the best questions! Thx, Suzy!
Has RH been discussed today? live answered
good morning, could you comment on RH please live answered
I really appreciate the questions that Alissa is asking. Super helpful Thanks so much, Jeff! The audience asks a ton of great Qs in the Q&A as well
Please dont forget Pennymac! live answered
I’d like to hear Ali’s opinion on FTCH as far as the product/service goes I actually don’t know too much about their specific platform, but know there’s a considerable addressable market!
can we look at WORK It’s a laggard despite strong sales growth in recent quarters. Having a hard time attracting buyers for whatever reason.
Speaking of LOW, could you comment on its action. I got in late at $179.92. I see a horizontal support at 170.70 and it is well above its 10 week. Testing 21-day EMA currently. 50-day line around 165.50 is solid suppport level That’s 8% below your purchase price.
8:50am to Ed – Elon Musk is on the phone; wants to talk to you. 8:55am from Ed – He doesn’t listen to us who ask real questions. 9:28am from Mpls – “Come on, Man !!” 9:40am from Ed – OK, Elon, here’s a tough one. “If you could be a tree on Mars, what kind of tree would you be?” BOOM. NOW from Mpls – Ed, that’s easy! I would be a Martian tree !!! Wow. Great answer. Price target hike to $5000.
Is IDB pumping and dumping? That was a joke!
Can you look at UNH? live answered
Thank you Ali! And you ask the best questions! Happy to hear it, Curt!
bless you Ali Lol!
Bless you Ali, also good sneeze/cough form Ha!
Did Chris sell all TWLO? Now it’s above the 21 day He sold some, I believe, not all.
Ed – U have said it many times – “cast a wide net” – BEER – perfect stock for the times we live in! I know! Wish I had this one.
To Irusha: Very Sad you don’t have enough SNAP …. markets never make me happy. lol
To Irusha: My situation is that I sold All my SNAP call options just before the breakeout. But at least I had kept some of TWTR yeah you can never truly win in the markets and so just make money.
